The Topic: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Michigan
In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) brought 100,000 men to Michigan. They lived in over 120 camps across the state. First, they fought forest fires. Then, they built state parks. Finally, they planted 484 million trees. Moreover, this “Roosevelt’s Tree Army” program reshaped our landscape. Because of their work, we still enjoy many parks and forests today. Therefore, Hillary will show how the CCC transformed natural resources during tough economic times.
This talk is perfect for history buffs, outdoor lovers, locals, or anyone interested in Michigan’s conservation legacy.
