We’re proud to welcome Captain Michael Davanzo, USCG Retired, to our next TapTalk! Captain Davanzo now oversees Enbridge’s Maritime Operations Center in St. Ignace. So, come join us for tales from 44 years at sea.
Captain Davanzo’s Coast Guard Legacy
Captain Davanzo served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 44 years. He retired in May 2021 from his role as Chief of Cutter Forces. There, he led fleet development, policy, training, and support for Coast Guard ships.Moreover, he spent over 23 years on sea duty. He commanded ten cutters. Most recently, he led USCGC Polar Star—America’s only heavy icebreaker. Previously, he commanded USCGC Mackinaw, Hollyhock, James Rankin, and Rambler. He also served on Madrona, Sundew, Bayberry, and Lantana. Because of this experience, he navigated everything from polar ice to Great Lakes waters.
His Current Role with Enbridge
Today, Captain Davanzo serves as Enbridge’s Maritime Operation Specialist. He oversees the Straits Maritime Operations Center in St. Ignace. This state-of-the-art facility monitors marine traffic in the Straits of Mackinac 24/7. Additionally, his work ensures safe energy transport across the Great Lakes. Therefore, his insights connect Coast Guard expertise with modern maritime safety.
Personal Life in Mackinaw City
Captain Davanzo and his wife Allyson live right here in Mackinaw City. They have two wonderful children, Jessica and Matthew, and an amazing granddaughter, Riata. In his time off, he enjoys family moments in the Straits area he knows so well.
